PM Modi revives 'dimaagi naxal' jibe at Delhi University

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said his Independence Day speech last month exposed critics he calls 'dimaagi naxals'. He made the remarks while speaking at the centenary celebrations of Delhi University's Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) on Saturday.

Modi revived his dig at opposition parties, stating that people who support such ideas were revealed after he mentioned them from the Red Fort. "Jaise hi maine dimaagi naxal wali homepathy ki goli di, sare dimaagi naxal nikal nikal ke bahar aanay lage aur jo is bimari ko badhawa de rahe hain ab janta unka bhi asli rang dekh rahi hai," he said, according to the Hindustan Times. He framed the comment as delivering a homeopathic dose that forced his ideological opponents into the open.

Warning to Pakistan

In the same speech, the Prime Minister reiterated a warning to Pakistan regarding terrorism. He stated that if Pakistan attempts to carry out terrorist activities on Indian soil, Indian forces will retaliate by striking within Pakistani territory. "Ghar mein ghuske maarte hain," he said.

Modi claimed the security situation within India has improved. "Peace has increased from Jammu and Kashmir to the Northeast," he said. He also asserted that "the back of Maoist terrorism and Naxalism has been broken." The Prime Minister contrasted India's current global image with its past, stating, "The world that was once concerned about India's policy paralysis is today talking about India's policy dynamism."

Praise for SRCC and its alumni

Speaking at the college's milestone event, Modi extended congratulations to its students, faculty, and alumni. He praised the institution's academic legacy for shaping generations. "Today's occasion is very historic for Shri Ram College of Commerce. It is equally important for the education sector of the country," he said.

He specifically highlighted the achievements of the college's former students, referring to them as "OGs"who have taken the SRCC name worldwide. Modi named several prominent alumni connected to his government and other fields."there was hardly a meeting with him where he did not share an incident from his SRCC days." He noted that Sanjeev Sanyal, part of his economic team, is also an alumnus. The Prime Minister emphasised that the institution's influence extends beyond economics, producing leaders in diverse professions.
