Editorial Policy
The editorial policy of billsandbenches defines what the site will and will not publish. The site covers the legislative process, focusing on the bill and the institution moving it. It will not publish any betting or gambling content. It will not publish invented quotes or any speculation presented as fact. It will not provide health, legal or financial advice presented as instruction. It will not publish material about an individual's private life unless it is a matter of direct, documented public record relevant to their institutional role.
The site separates reporting from reference material. The News section contains timely reporting on legislative and political developments. All other sections, such as Legislatures, Policy areas, and Institutions, contain static reference material. This reference material, including pages on bills, country profiles, and judgments, is maintained for long-term accuracy and is updated only when a substantive change occurs, with the date of update clearly noted.
When a claim cannot be independently verified from primary sources such as official records, parliamentary transcripts, or court documents, the site will not present it as established fact. Such claims may be reported only if they are attributed to a specific, credible source, and the context of the claim and the inability to verify it will be made clear to the reader.
All images are treated with the same factual standard. Where a photograph is used, it must be a real photograph, not an illustration or software-generated image, and its credit will be displayed. The site will never publish a picture of a real person's face generated by software. For general illustrative purposes, such as for a policy area, only approved stock imagery or official insignia will be used.
Readers who wish to comment on this policy, suggest a correction, or raise an editorial concern are invited to write to the editorial team via the contact address provided on the site. Correspondence is reviewed, but the site cannot guarantee a personal response to every message.
