Telangana Assembly suspends over 20 BRS MLAs
The Telangana Assembly Speaker suspended more than 20 Bharat Rashtra Samiti members for the remainder of the monsoon session after they disrupted
Over twenty members of the main opposition Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) have been suspended from the Telangana Legislative Assembly for the rest of the monsoon session. Assembly Speaker G. Prasad Kumar announced the decision on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, following a motion moved by Legislative Affairs Minister D. Sridhar Babu.
The Motion for Suspension
The motion was moved amid a din created by BRS members who thronged the Speaker's podium. They raised slogans demanding justice. Repeated appeals from the Chair for the members to return to their seats failed. With the protest continuing for more than half an hour, Minister Sridhar Babu moved the formal motion for suspension.

Cause of the Disruption
The BRS members were agitated over reported claims by some Congress legislators. They alleged that Congress members had said they wanted BRS president and Opposition Leader K. Chandrasekhar Rao dead. Led by Harish Rao, the BRS members demanded a debate on these alleged remarks. They carried placards, rushed into the Well of the House, and surrounded the podium.
Minister Adluri Lakshman Kumar countered by demanding a discussion on what he called "abusive" remarks made by BRS MLCs against the Speaker. He cited an instance of BRS leaders and cadre cleaning a road on which Congress leaders from the Dalit community had walked. Kumar alleged the BRS was continuing discriminatory practices due to a "feudal mindset."
Government's Accusations
Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka accused the BRS members of intimidating the Chair. "Dalits are not prepared to bear any more humiliation and insults," he asserted. Legislative Affairs Minister D. Sridhar Babu faulted the BRS for not following proper procedure. He said the Speaker had requested they submit their grievance in writing, but they refused. Babu alleged, "BRS members don't want the House to function and hence, they are creating ruckus." Appeals from both Sridhar Babu and Deputy CM Vikramarka went unheeded as the BRS members remained in the Well of the House.
The session will continue for its scheduled duration with the suspended members barred from participation.
