PM Modi Outlines BRICS Vision with Xi, Putin at Delhi Summit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the opening of the second day of the BRICS Summit in Delhi on Sunday, with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping seated on either side of him. Modi said India's leadership of the grouping had focused efforts on four pillars: resilience, innovation, cooperation, and sustainability.

Modi expressed satisfaction that the shared vision of the bloc was being transformed into what he called "win-win cooperation." He stated that India had used the BRICS platform to advance friendship, participation, and broader cooperation.

Inclusivity and the Global South

A key part of his address was a pitch for inclusivity. Modi said the group had sought to promote inclusive global growth. He argued that solutions developed within BRICS should not only benefit its member nations but should also be adapted and made accessible to meet the needs of the Global South.

He cited personal experience, claiming the confidence of Global South countries in BRICS has grown. Modi said this was because "their voices are heard, their experiences are respected, and solutions are created not only for them, but together with them."

Diversity as Strength

Modi emphasized that the strength of the BRICS alliance lies in its diversity and cooperative spirit. "We may be rooted in different realities, but together we rise through cooperation and blossom for humanity," he said, according to the source.

The prime minister also stressed that BRICS cooperation should extend beyond governments. He said the group's entrepreneurs, farmers, researchers, women, youth, and ordinary citizens must also become active participants in its initiatives.

The summit, held at the Bharat Mandapam in Delhi, began on Saturday. The city was heavily fortified for the high-profile event, which was attended by the leaders of China and Russia. BRICS, which stands for Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability, currently comprises eleven major emerging economies.
