Delhi CM orders probe, FIR after Satya Niketan PG collapse

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the collapse of a boys' paying guest building in Satya Niketan. She also directed that a First Information Report be filed against the building's owner, following an on-site review and preliminary assessment.

"Those found responsible will be held fully accountable and dealt with under the strictest provisions of the law," said the Chief Minister, according to a statement from her office reported by the Hindustan Times.

Police Case Registered

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southwest) Amit Goel confirmed an FIR has been registered against building owner Hariram and others at the South Campus police station. The case invokes sections of the new Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Goel stated that renovation work allegedly being undertaken on the ground floor led to the building's collapse. Multiple police teams have been formed to trace the accused individuals.

A total of ten people have been rescued so far. Four were declared dead on arrival, and one person succumbed to injuries during treatment. The rescue operation was still underway at the time of the DCP's statement. When asked if the work was in the basement, Goel said preliminary investigation pointed to the ground floor, adding that further probe would provide a clearer picture.

Rescue Operations and Evacuation

According to the Chief Minister's Office, Gupta reviewed rescue and relief operations with senior officials after reaching the site. She directed involved agencies to make every effort to safely evacuate those trapped and to ensure the operation proceeded without lapse.

Multiple agencies are working in coordination at the site. These include the Delhi Disaster Management Authority, the National Disaster Response Force, Delhi Fire Services, Delhi Police, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, Centralised Accident and Trauma Services, and Civil Defence. As a precaution, the building adjacent to the collapsed structure has been evacuated.

The Chief Minister remained in touch with the Regional District Magistrate, Delhi Police, NDRF, and other officials for regular updates. She also spoke to local MP Bansuri Swaraj and RK Puram MLA Anil Sharma, who visited the spot to assess the rescue efforts.

Chief Minister Visits Injured

Gupta later visited the AIIMS Trauma Centre to meet those injured in the collapse. She met with doctors to seek an update on the condition and treatment of the injured students and other victims. The injured are receiving necessary medical care at AIIMS. Gupta directed the medical team to ensure all required treatment and assistance are provided to the victims.
