CJP Demands Action After Viral Assault Video

Members of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) gathered at the Parliament Street police station in New Delhi on Friday. They sought action over a viral video interview where a man allegedly claimed to have assaulted the father of a student protester.

The CJP's visit follows a video interview of Swantantra Bhardwaj that circulated widely. In it, Bhardwaj allegedly claims he assaulted Sanjay, the father of student protester Nishu Azad, during a June 23 demonstration at Jantar Mantar. He also allegedly stated he avoided jail after a call from BJP leader Kapil Mishra. These claims have not been independently verified. CJP spokesperson Saurav Das said the delegation arrived at 10 am to seek justice for Sanjay, who was injured in the protest over an alleged NEET paper leak.

Police Deny Interference Claims

The Delhi Police has firmly rejected allegations of political interference. New Delhi Deputy Commissioner of Police Sachin Sharma said the accusations were "factually incorrect and baseless." Police stated that Sanjay suffered a head injury from a metal kada worn by an assailant during a scuffle. His injuries were assessed as "simple" at RML Hospital. A case was registered at Parliament Street police station.

Police confirmed two men, Suraj Kumar and Swantantra Bhardwaj, were detained from the spot. They were served notices and interrogated. Authorities said a chargesheet will be filed before the competent court.

Bhardwaj's Self-Defense Claim

Swantantra Bhardwaj, described as a self-styled Hindutva influencer, offered a different account. He told news agency ANI that his actions were in "self defence." Bhardwaj claimed the viral clip shared by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was fake. "If I had not acted in self-defence, I could have been lynched by the mob or killed," he said. He acknowledged that Sanjay was hit on the head during the incident but cited the police medical report stating the injuries were not major. Bhardwaj said he is cooperating with the investigation.

Political Reactions and Security

Heavy security was deployed outside the Parliament Street police station ahead of the CJP delegation's arrival. The political reaction was swift. The CJP directly questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi on social media. They asked if he would order the arrest of the man who allegedly admitted to the assault on camera, or if Indians should "accept a lawless system."

The All India Students’ Association (AISA) also reacted, stating Bhardwaj would not escape punishment. "Law will take its course, n we'll make sure u get the strictest punishment possible," AISA said on X. CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke accused Delhi Police of inaction, alleging DCP Sharma refused to arrest the accused. These allegations have not been independently verified. The CJP's protest comes days after the group called off a planned September 5 demonstration following assurances from the central government before the Supreme Court.
