Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Nitin Nabin declared on Sunday, September 6, 2026, that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had accurately described Opposition politicians focused on their own personal interests. Nabin stated these leaders become angry whenever India makes progress.
Nabin's comments came a day after PM Modi used the phrase "naraaz fufa" (angry uncle) to attack Opposition leaders during a speech at the Shri Ram College of Commerce in Delhi. In a two-and-a-half minute video message posted on Facebook, the BJP chief doubled down on the Prime Minister's critique.
Nabin Questions Opposition's Motives
Nabin directly questioned the Opposition's stance on national developments. "I want to ask the Opposition, when India is developing today, why are they angry?" he asked in the video. He also cited the eradication of Naxalism and the lifting of 25 crore poor families out of poverty as achievements that provoke Opposition anger.
He suggested that the fulfillment of long-standing political slogans under the current government was a particular source of frustration for rival parties. Without naming any specific individuals, Nabin asserted that Opposition leaders cannot bear to see India's development, heritage, and culture moving forward.
Accusations of Personal Interest
The BJP president attributed this dynamic to the Opposition's preoccupation with self-interest. "Because they remain completely hidden in personal interests and personal prestige," Nabin said. He claimed the situation of an "naraaz fufa" within a family had become analogous to the Opposition's position in India.
Nabin framed the political conflict around Modi's vision for a developed India, or 'Viksit Bharat,' by 2047. "I want to state clearly that Modi Ji's vision is to fulfil the dream of a Viksit Bharat by 2047, and with that dream, today, 140 crore Indians have set out," he stated. He vowed that no amount of anger or opposition would halt the country's development trajectory.
Context of Broader Political Clashes
The exchange occurred amidst broader political tensions. Earlier on Sunday, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi had criticized PM Modi and Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary over police action against protesting students in Bihar. Nabin's video message served as a pointed rebuttal to the Opposition's broader criticisms of the government, reinforcing the ruling party's narrative that its rivals are obstructing national progress for personal gain.
